Importance of space

Usually in Japan, there is a tendency to respect each other's personal space more. There is more space between people when speaking. Not respecting this distance, for example touching the other person on the shoulder can put the other person in a defensive state. Something that in Colombia we would see as a sign of connection and friendship there can be seen as a threat. In Japan, they are generally reluctant to show emotions in public. It is difficult to see couples kissing in the streets (something that in Colombia is normal), it does not mean that they do not love each other, in the context and privacy of their houses they behave in a totally different way. Context is everything.
